2023 Senior Night Tour - Keenan HS (SC)

2023 Senior Night Tour

Keenan HS (SC)

Senior night is an opportunity to highlight the graduating class by celebrating them and their families in front of the fans, faculty and alumni. Keenan HS (SC) has had a tremendous amount of success for both the Girls & Boys Basketball teams over the last 10+ years and with the senior night ceremony happening between the varsity games you know it was going to be packed in the gym.  The girls basketball team at Keenan HS (SC) has won the last three consecutive SCHSL AAA State Championships and is currently ranked # 1 in the state AA classification. The six seniors have had a tremendous amount of success and will be making their last regular season home game in front of the local crowd, family and faculty.

This group of players has a chance to finish their careers by winning a fourth consecutive SCHSL State Championship. Hat accomplishment will put them in a small but significant group of people in South Carolina Girls Basketball history.  Two of the players are looking to win their 5th State championship in their high school careers, we will take a closer look at the two of them. Tanaja Kennedy is playing in her first season at Keenan HS.  Kennedy has some major hardware in her trophy case with four SCISA State Championships while playing at Cardinal Newman in Columbia, SC.  She is second on the team with a 12.6 points per game average, 3.8 assists and 2.1 steals per game, all of these rank 2nd on the team. In the senior night game versus Fairfield Central HS, she knocked down a 3 - Ptr that gave her 1,000 career points, she celebrated this accomplishment in front of her family and friends, even getting a selfie at half court with Keenan HS Principal Vondre T. Whaley.  Fairfield Central HS was playing Keenan HS for the 2nd time in four days and lost earlier in the week, they came out with energy and purpose and exchanged baskets throughout the beginning minutes when the game was tied at 7 with 5 minutes left in 1st quarter, from that point on Keenan HS took control of the game and never looked back. Malaysia Fulwiley and Tanaja Kennedy were the driving force behind a 24 - 11 lead after the 1st quarter and the combined for 40 of the 52 points the team had going into the halftime locker room. In my time covering girls basketball there have been a few players with the skill, athleticism and competitive drive that Milaysia Fulwiley possesses, she is one of the girls that hopefully will be the next generation of legends that will take this game to another level. The home crowd came to the 2023 senior night to watch something special and Milaysia did not disappoint her people, Fulwiley is the leader of this team with the 2nd highest scoring average in South Carolina at 25.6 points per game, is 3rd in the state with a 6.2 Assist per game average, she leads her team with 9.1 rebounds, 5.7 steals and 2.7 blocks per game. On senior night Fulwiley led all scorers with 28 points and added a few highlight reel plays that led to a 85 - 29 victory over Fairfield Central HS.  University of South Carolina Head Women's Basketball Coach: Dawn Staley - Has recruited Milaysia Fulwiley continuously and earned her commitment on signing day in November of 2022, she will be a great addition to the defending NCAA national champions, she was also recently named a McDonald's All American game participant.

Keenan finished up the season with a 16 - 6 Record and was undefeated in AA Region 4 play with an 8 - 0 record, there is no easy path to winning a state championship but with Head Coach: Reggie Mclain and his staff that have been together for 6 State Championships, they have the leadership and the talent to challenge for another 1 this year.
